Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Ganja branch (hCa Ganja) was established in 1999. The coordinator of hCa Ganja branch is Akifa Aliyeva. The staff of hCa Ganja branch consists of 6 person. Beside if it, 23 volunteers has of organization.
Since that year the activity of the organization covers Ganja and surrounded regions of Ganja city. The willfulness of officials, corruption, the violation of human rights, lack of NGOs on protection of human rights and hard period after ceasefire created need for establishment of the organization. The citizens actively became the members of the organization and the office turned into citizen movement. The stuff and members of the hCa Branch after propaganda and works on building of civil society gained trust and reputation of the society. The activities of hCa Ganja branch covers Ganja and surrounded regions. Near the 100 women participants of the course “Women leadership and political knowledge” which organized and implemented by the hCa Ganja became an active members of hCa Ganja branch. Present time some of them are still working at different NGOs and Media.
In the year 2000 the organization hired an office in the centre of the city but the coordinator of the office was using her private recourse – house. The relatives and family members of coordinator were assisting her on the organizational works.
In October 2000, the staff member of HCA Ganja branch acquainted with the network-family of Helsinki Citizens’ Assemblies at the International Conference which held by the Helsinki Citizens Assembly in Baku. 10 members participated from hCa Ganja at event.
In 2001- first time the organization implemented the project related to enlighten of the region people in the filed of Human Rights and obtained technical equipment and library.
The NGOs working in Ganja used the office to hold trainings, seminars and meetings.
From 2001 the members of the organization participated in different events in Georgia, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Turkey, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, and Spain and so on.
In 2002 the organization organized conference in the frame of project of Council of Europe “European and Southern Caucasus Mountains - 2002” in Ganja.
Same year the coordinator of hCa Ganja, participated as a part of the project in Italy – dolomites and Spain – Pireney.
In 2004 the in the frame of the “Capacity Building Program” project hCa Ganja moved to new big office.
hCa Ganja office has contacts with Council of Europe, OSCE, IRCS, and Human Rights, Human Watch, International Crisis group and so on.
